I am on a 10-day leave; have not resigned – Deputy Governor

The Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has disproved claims and media reports that he has resigned and has stated he is on a 10-day leave.

The Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has disproved claims and media reports that he has resigned and has stated he is on a 10-day leave.

Reports on Monday morning in sections of the media suggested that, Dr. Asiama had bowed out from the central bank, after serving close to two years of his four year contract.

In a telephone interview with Dr. Johnson Asiama said” I haven’t resigned. I am on a 10-day leave. I will return to Ghana tomorrow [Tuesday]. I have been out in the last five days attending to some private family issues”.

Dr. Asiama was appointed on the 5th of April 2016 by then President, John Dramani Mahama.

He rose through the ranks after joining the bank in 1996 from Assistant Director, until his appointment as Deputy Governor.

He holds a PHD in Economics from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and an Mphil in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.
