A/R: Sekyere East Records Zero Maternal Death In 1 And Half Years

The District Health Director, Dorothy Afuakwa says in previous years they were recording a huge number of maternal death cases with most of them from rural areas as they needed to put in place some interventions in villages to curb the situation.

The Sekyere East District Health Directorate has recorded no maternal death since 2017 till June this year.

The District Health Director, Dorothy Afuakwa says in previous years they were recording a huge number of maternal death cases with most of them from rural areas as they needed to put in place some interventions in villages to curb the situation.

She explained that World Vision came to the district with health programs which they helped build one CHPS Compound which is now being used as OPD and labor ward.

According to her, they also sensitized pregnant women what to do and what not to do including eating habit and so sponsored in training of health officer.

Statistics show there were 2015, 1,861 deliveries out of which 5 died whiles in 2016, 2,044 deliveries were made with two deaths recorded.

Also, in 2017, 1,934 women who came to deliver recorded no death till date.

Mrs. Dorithy Afuakwa disclosed her outfit was able to achieve this due to the help of World Vision through their Health Intervention Program in the District.

She, however, stated the Health Directorate lacks vehicles and staff accommodation with workers having to travel long distances from Kumasi each day to work
