The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Eric Kwakye Daffour has urged Ghanaians to support the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo in the fight against illegal mining locally known as galamsey in Ghana.

He made this assertion when delivering a speech at the Regional Festival of Art and Culture (REFAC) 2018 held at the Jubilee Park in Koforidua on Friday.

According to the minister, the country is losing its natural resources which were given protected and by the forefathers in their pristine statuses which is affecting water bodies in the country.

“Unfortunately for some time now, the natural resources in the region are in an unbridled, unregulated and irresponsible manner has put the region on the path of a serious environmental degradation. Let us all join hands and support the president in the fight against galamsey,” he urged.

In furtherance, the Eastern Regional Minister advised Ghanaians to be patriotic in upholding the cultural value of Ghana rather than penetrating in foreign cultural practices.

“The infiltration of foreign cultural practices into our culture as a way of life. The adaptation of same can affect us and it is important that we uphold our rich culture which has been handed down to us through our ancestral heritage and takes cognizance of its vitality and values. He said.

According to the honorable minister, if we as citizens are able to imbibe the positive values, we would be better equipped to build a vibrant and multi-cultural society which will be formidable to stand the rest of the time.
