VGMA: Artist of the year should be the living not the dead – Pundits
The crowning of late Ebony Reigns as the Artiste of the year has received lots of criticisms from the entertainment pundits describing it as out of place.
Confusion has rocked some entertainment critics in the country as Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng (Ebony Reigns) was adjudged the overall artist of the year in the 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held last Saturday at the Accra International conference centre.
Section of pundits who spoke to Bryt FM Entertainment news explained it is outrageous to award Ebony with the bragging rights as an artist of the year knowing well she is no more.
According to them, the artist of the year has the mandate to represent Ghana both locally and internationally hence are wondering how Ebony would be able to do that since she is dead.
“How can the dead be the artiste of the year knowing well of the responsibility that comes with it. She did well in the year under review but I do not think she deserves such an award when she is dead and gone” some pundits argued.
Others are of the view, organisers should have given the song of the year award so as to enable living contenders like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale or Sarkodie to have the bragging rights as the artist of the year.
However, some pundits have also expressed shock as Fancy Gaddam won the song of the year over Patapaa’s “one corner” song which went viral across the country and even beyond.
