The scientist who shocked the Catholic Church in the seventeenth century by claiming that the sun was the center of the solar system said: “In scientific matters, the power of a thousand is not equal to the humble thinking of one.”

The inventor of the telescope as we know it today and the father of modern science, Galileo Galilei A multi-talented person (a person whose knowledge transcends one field) was essential to the scientific revolution between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Through his studies in the fields of mathematics, philosophy, astronomy, and more, Galilei has been widely judged for violating the religious principles of the time. For claiming that the sun was the center of the solar system and not the earth, he was persecuted by the Catholic Church.
In 1632, he wrote A Dialogue Concerning Two Principal World Systems, which angered the Jesuits with views that seemed to be an attack on the Pope at the time. He ended up being investigated by the Roman Inquisition and was under house arrest until his death at the age of 77, in 1642.
