In the competition, promoted by the Bairrada Wine Committee, on November 12, among the 12 sparkling wines awarded with gold, the most points were passed to the final, in order to elect the “Great Gold Medal”, Borga Bruto white 2010 ( Campolargo Wines ), the most distinguished in the category “Best Baga-Bairrada” (created in 2015 and already has more than 30 references), Íssimo Baga-Bairrada white 2016 (Caves Arcos do Rei). It should be noted that the same competition awarded four silver medals.
A year after the throne was interrupted, the Birada Wine Commission implemented the initiative again, with a panel of 12 judges sitting at the tasting table, made up of journalists, bloggers, wine critics, tasters and buyers, who managed to taste nearly six dozen fizzy drinks. Certified wines with the seal of guarantee and quality from DO Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico.
The 2021 Bairrada Sparkling Competition was held at the Bairrada Wine Museum and chaired by wine critic and journalist Luís Ramos Lopes, a local resident and senior connoisseur of the wine and sparkling wine produced there. This year’s edition coincided with the celebration of the 30th class of origin and more than 130 years of sparkling wine in the region.
It should be noted that more than 50% of the sparkling wine produced in Portugal originated in the Bairrada wine region, and this supremacy does not occur by chance. In 1890, the first steps to create this sparkling wine were taken in Portugal by the engineer Tavares da Silva. After 101 knowledge, on February 8, 1991, the appellation of origin for Bairrada sparkling wine was established, adhering to the requirements specified by the Bairrada Wine Commission in order to bear the seal of certification.
