Sevilla got fed up and sent central defender Joris Gangnon

Three years ago, in the summer of 2018, Joris Gnagnon left Rennes to join Sevilla, in a deal that cost Sevilla coffers nearly 13.5 million euros. A great investment, but it was justified by what the French defender did in the French national team during two full seasons in the first team. The problem was what happened when he arrived in Spain… He never confirmed himself and now, after three years of several less positive episodes, he’s ended up getting fired.

According to ‘Diario de Sevilla’, the Andalusian logo has certainly lost its patience with the 24-year-old, due to what the newspaper says is a “lack of discipline in terms of physical form, the minimum required for a highly competitive professional”. The contention is the various episodes of excess weight, which are never compensated, not even after specific action based on diet or treatments. Faced with constant repetition, Seville ended up placing the process in the hands of the legal department, advancing to dismissal due to lack of discipline. Gnagnon had a contract until 2023, and was working away from the group by not telling Julen Lopetegui, who had already ‘tagged’ him since 2019 for what he did in a friendly against Liverpool, Where he “swept” Yasser Al-Arousi and ended up expelling him. In total, the defender played only 17 matches for the Andalusian club, 7 in the League, 4 in the Copa del Rey and 6 in the European League.
