After the introduction of the concept model in 2021, the electric Renault 5 is now approaching its official launch. In addition to being 30% more economical to produce than the ZOE model, it also launches the CMF-B EV platform.

Renault 5 Electric will be cheaper to produce than ZOE

Renault 5 Electric is currently one of the most important projects of the French brand, as it will completely replace Renault Zoe.

After being presented in 2021, in the form of a conceptual model, it now reappears in the plans to be officially presented.

Although the great details about this model are not yet known, Renault has now begun to pull back the veil and reveal some details.

Renault 5 Electric will debut for the first time a new platform designed for B-segment cars of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance in Europe, and it is also planned to be used in the Nissan Micra.

One of the great advantages of this new component is that it costs 30% less than the existing Renault ZOE platform, as well as allowing 70% of the components used in the Clio and Captur to be reused.

With this platform, a multi-link rear suspension also arrives, instead of the traditional torsion bar or rigid axle, which makes driving more comfortable.

More efficient and environmentally friendly engine

Another novelty revealed by the French brand is the change made to the engine of this car.

Renault 5 Electric will receive a synchronous motor with a coiled rotor at the front, installed in the same unit where we can find the power transformer, charging socket and other electronic components.

This new structure is more efficient than permanent magnet motors and is more environmental because it requires less scarce raw materials. Hence, it is also cheaper to produce.

In addition, it also features an electrical system based on the 400V architecture, which makes it cheaper, in addition to integrating four large battery modules, instead of ZOE’s 12, which allows a saving of 15 kg.

Renault 5 Electric is being developed in Arvidsjaur, Sweden

This new vehicle is being developed, at the moment, in Arvidsjaur districtIn Sweden for winter exams where the temperature can reach -30°C.

Although this type of test is already common in the automotive world, it has gained some importance in order to understand the performance of batteries at low temperatures.

There is no release date for the Renault 5 Electric yet, but it should soon hit the car market.
