5G service will remain free in Portugal! Find out how long…

Since the end of the auction to allocate 5G frequencies to operators, customers have been able to enjoy the service for free. But all investments must be profitable, and the day will come when 5G technology will pay for itself! Find out when the free service will be postponed.

Free 5G until January 31, 2024 in Portugal

According to the latest information, MEO, NOS and Vodafone must offer 5G by January 31, 2024. After this period, Portuguese will have to pay for this service.

It should also be remembered that MEO, NOS and Vodafone, which have acquired at least 50 MHz in the 3.6 GHz band, are obliged to install external macro or small cell base stations whenever requested by the following entities:

  • Hospitals and health centres;
  • Universities, other higher education institutions and other entities of the national scientific and technological system;
  • Ports and airports.
  • military institutions;
  • Entities that manage or promote business parks, industrial parks or business location areas.

5G technology reduces network latency, meaning it responds to your actions in milliseconds. 5G technology paves the way for you to play on your cell phone, without lag and incredibly smoothly, to experience virtual reality, as if you were there, but it also allows new realities such as remote surgeries, controlling drones in emergency situations and much more.

The network equipped with this technology is able to provide high-quality Internet even in the most crowded areas and situations. With 5G, you can connect more devices simultaneously, while maintaining the same quality of response and experience. Your browsing will be very fast and uninterrupted, will consume less battery or power, and will be more sustainable. Moreover, it paves the way for greater agility and flexibility in everything, anywhere.
