Kevin Meyer has warned that Damien Warner will be a major contender for his Olympic quest at the Decathlon at the Tokyo Olympics. The Canadian, who was already leading after the opening 100 meters, extended the race to 8.24 meters on his first attempt.
A capital performance that has secured him a bronze medal in the length competition in Tokyo. The 31-year-old Decattle didn’t even have to make his third attempt, and his first attempt allowed him to score 1,123 points.

Kevin Mayer did not go the same way. The Frenchman did the bit on his first attempt and was not happy to see his board checked to just 1.5 centimeters on the second attempt recorded at 7.50 meters. His third tab, measured at 7.21 meters, did not allow him to collect more than the 935 points he already had in his bag. When he set his world record in September 2018 he could not come close to his personal best at 7.80 meters.
After two trials, favorable on paper to Damien Warner’s profile, Kevin Meyer is in 4th place and 321 points behind the Canadian. At 4:40 a.m. (French time) the French will have the opportunity to repeat the shot put.
