Frighteningly high vet bill: His puppy drowned

A 49-year-old New Jersey woman pleaded guilty Thursday to animal cruelty after a golden retriever was found immersed in a cage in a pond near the small town of West Milford, the Guardian reported. Prosecution in Passaic County.

According to the local newspaper, the woman explained that she panicked when the puppy first fell ill. Instead of taking her to the vet, she drove to the secluded lake, and lowered the pup into a crate in the water.

According to the local newspaper, the attorney general is asking the court to impose a sentence of 180 days in prison, five years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and continued mental health counseling.
