Startups, universities, customers and other technology partners. Those are the goals of Upcoming Energies, a collaborative innovation platform launched by Galp this Tuesday, that aims to accelerate the path to carbon neutrality.

The initiative was presented at the Web Summit, which runs through Thursday in Lisbon, by Galp CEO, Andy Brown.

The company confirmed in a statement that the platform “will be part of the Galp renewal, which is based on the allocation of capital in innovation and R&D + I estimated at €180 million by 2025”. The main objective of the new instrument “is to increase investment in innovation and advance Galp’s clear mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.” Through the partnerships, Galp proposes creating “a reliable and efficient ecosystem where customers, startups, suppliers, universities, R&D+I partners, and investors will work in a collaborative way to accelerate the energy transition.” The initiative will be open to both Portuguese and Brazilian ecosystems.

These initiatives, which will begin in 2022, will take the form of partnerships, education programs, acceleration programs and investment in emerging startups “that develop new digital solutions and energy transformation.”

The company wants to attract startups, companies, universities, investors and other partners, so that they share its “vision and solutions”. The ideas selected will receive support from Galp “for their development, validation and scaling up, with the main task of accelerating the energy transition to carbon neutrality that the Portuguese company wants to achieve.”

The platform will be developed in Portugal and Brazil, but the oil company’s intent is to open access to the Galp network in 10 countries, “connecting a global ecosystem of energy transmission innovation, specialized guidance and response every step of the way.”

“Galp has ambitious goals to drive the energy transition, and we want to accelerate and build the future through a collaborative and systematic approach, one that brings together the latest technology and talent to help us achieve these ambitious goals,” said Andy Brown. , CEO of Galp, mentioned in the same note.
