WMr. Elle Smith admitted that he considered killing his father, Willard Smith, in a desperate act to save his mother, Caroline Bright, from the domestic violence she had suffered. That revelation is in his memoir, “Will,” which will be released on November 9th.

“My dad was violent, but he was also at all the games, plays, and concerts. He was an alcoholic, but he was sober in every single of my first movie screenings. […] Listen to all recordings. I visited all studios. With the same extreme perfectionism with which I terrorized his family, he would put food on the table every night of my life.” the people.

The 53-year-old actor also reported an episode of violence he witnessed when he was just nine years old. “When I was nine, I saw my father hitting my mother on the side of her head so hard that she fainted. I saw her blood spit. That moment, in that room, perhaps more than any other moment in my life, defined who I am.”

He continued, “Within everything I’ve done since—the awards and praise, the spotlight and the attention, the characters and the laughs—there has been a series of subtle apologies to my mother for my retirement that day. For failing that day. Because I couldn’t stand up to my father. For being a coward.”

Will Smith had promised himself that “when he was old enough” he would avenge his mother by killing his father’s life, and there was a moment when he felt like making good on his promise.

“One night, when I gently pushed him from his bedroom toward the bathroom, darkness fell into me. The path between the two bedrooms runs through the top of the stairs. As a child, I always told myself that one day I would avenge my mother. When I was old enough, when I was strong enough Enough, when I was no longer a coward, I would have killed him.”

He concluded, “I took a break at the top of the stairs. I could push him down and get away with it easily.”

Will Smith’s father, a United States Army veteran, died five years ago, shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer.
