Google Photo Magic Eraser update removes Pixel 6

Google Photo Magic Eraser update removes Pixel 6

One Pixel 6 exclusive that has attracted a lot of attention is Magic Eraser. As fun as it is, it relies on certain versions of the Google Photos app, and the Pixel 6’s latest photo update appears to remove Magic Eraser from the app entirely.

some Reddit users have found This morning, an update to the Google Photos app via the Play Store removed the Magic Eraser gadget from Pixel 6 devices. This is clearly not an intentional behavior, but appears to be related to Photos version 5.67.0.409192963.

Reports of this update released and removed so far are limited to a few users, but this appears to be due to the limited release of the app up to this point. We are still unable to replicate the issue as the update did not reach our Pixel 6 devices via the Play Store.

Unofficially fixing this issue can be difficult as certain versions of the Photos app are required to enable Magic Eraser on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, so sideloading is not a simple solution.

It seems likely that Google will fix this issue sooner or later, but in the meantime, it would be smart for Pixel 6 owners to turn off automatic updates to ensure the feature isn’t lost. This can be done in the Play Store under Settings > App Download Preferences > Automatically update apps. Alternatively, you can disable automatic photo updates from the App Store menu in the three-dot menu at the top of the screen.

Update 11/13: Google confirmed to On the edge The company is working to fix this issue. Meanwhile, the update has been pulled from the Play Store.
