Omikron arrived in Europe earlier than expected

Last week, an omikron was discovered in South Africa, and several researchers warned of the corona variant that some chose to name later. Frankenstein variants.

Omikron has already been detected in at least 20 countries around the world, and cases of infection were reported Tuesday in Brazil and Japan.

Dutch authorities previously believed the virus reached the country on November 26, when 14 passengers from Johannesburg and Cape Town tested positive. However, the new findings may indicate that the virus has been in Europe for longer than initially thought.

According to the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), omicrone was detected in test results taken on November 19 and 23. This was already one week before the two planes carrying passengers infected with the omikron variant landed in the Netherlands, according to the British newspaper, The Guardian. CNN.

Omikron, also known as B.1.1.529, has an unusually high level of mutation, and many fear it may be resistant to the vaccine, prolonging the epidemic.

Much remains unclear, and it is not known whether the disease is more contagious or whether it is making people seriously ill, as many health authorities suspect.

Arrived in Brazil and Japan

In Brazil, the virus was detected on Tuesday, the first reported case from Omicron in South America. According to the country’s authorities, it was discovered in two people who had recently returned from South Africa. The two were tested on November 25, according to the news agency AP.

Also in Japan, the virus was first discovered on Tuesday by a Namibian diplomat. The state closed the borders to visitors on the same day.

France also discovered its first case of infection on the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean. According to the French authorities, the patient returned from South Africa on November 20.
