Paulo Sousa left Thursday evening for Brazil, where he will take over the leadership of Flamengo, the club with which he signed a contract valid for two seasons.

Speaking to reporters at Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, the 51-year-old was “excited to represent a club with the greatness of Flamengo”, promising “a lot of work, a lot of dedication, a lot of humility as well as ambition to win”.

He was also asked about Jorge Jesus, the coach who achieved great success at Flamengo. “All the Portuguese coaches have done a good job everywhere, we have a lot of quality, but the pressure and the responsibility continues at a club with the greatness of Flamengo. We want to continue on the winning path. [Jorge Jesus] He is not a ghost. He’s a very good coach, and he’s shown that throughout his career. He has always shown his quality and passion, just as I will also try to express myself,” he said.

Paulo Sousa also spoke about the termination of the controversial contract with the Polish Federation. “I’ve always been very focused on my decisions. I don’t want to think about the past, I’m very proud of what I did. Poland were the teams that scored the most goals in the World Cup qualifiers, I devoted myself from day one to the last. From the moment In which I made the decision to adopt a project with the greatness of Flamingo, that’s what I think of, not the past.”
