Citigroup lays off unvaccinated American employees

Published on

Several American media revealed that Citigroup, one of the largest banking entities in the United States, will release by the end of the month employees who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 and who do not provide any justification.

According to an internal document released Friday, the banking institution has set January 14 as the deadline for obtaining a vaccination or providing an exemption for religious, medical or legal reasons, the EFE says.

Anyone who has not been vaccinated and has not provided justification will be suspended without pay from January 15 and will be formally fired at the end of the month, according to a document distributed to workers.

A source in the bank, citing “The New York Times”, said that more than 90% of Citigroup’s 65,000 employees in the United States have already been vaccinated.

Citigroup, the third largest bank in the United States, is the first major financial institution to show an intent to fire anyone who has not been vaccinated.

In October, the bank already revealed that it would require all employees to be vaccinated, based on an administration edict led by Joe Biden requiring government-appointed employees to be vaccinated.

However, Citigroup did not disclose at the time that it would choose to kick out the unvaccinated.
