Brasmar National Group, operating in the seafood sector, has bought the majority of French company Sedisal, which specializes in distributing chilled seafood, according to a statement.

In the disclosed information, which did not include the value of the operation, Brassmar reported that Sedisal has a turnover of around 13 million euros, with the distribution of chilled octopus and cod in the large areas it controls, “with a strong presence in the Francophone markets”.

“Over the past few years, Sedisal has become a reference partner in modern distribution in France, developing a range of high-quality and recognizable products,” according to the same note, which adds that “in 2015 it launched a range of ready-to-eat cephalopods – In partnership with Foncasal, a company that will also join the Prasmar Group in 2019.”

According to the company, “the acquisition of the majority of the capital of the French company (guarantee of a “purchase option” [opção de compra] over the remaining 49%), founded in 1999 and located in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, will allow Brassmart to consolidate its operations in the French-speaking market, and increase sales in both the chilled and frozen products business.”

Brasmar is a subsidiary of VigentGroup and private equity firm MCH, having “intensified its internationalization process, through a series of acquisitions and branch openings,” they point out.

“We are always interested in potential business opportunities that will allow us to increase our market share, product offering and logistics chain liquidity. This acquisition responds to our growth objectives in this market and reinforces the internationalization dynamics that we have implemented in recent years”, explained VigentGroup CEO Sergio Silva, Quoted in the same note.

The Portuguese group revealed “in more than 40 countries”, that it has “a world of employees exceeding 850 and achieved a consolidated sales volume, in 2021, of about 240 million euros”, in the statement.
