The Fake heiress ‘Anna Delphi’ Sorokin, who was arrested in 2019 for defrauding hundreds of thousands of dollars from hotels, banks and friends and which inspired a hit series on Netflix, will be extradited to Germany on Monday, the New York Post reports.
The 31-year-old Russian-German national managed in 2016 and 2017 to deceive New York elites, posing as a wealthy heiress, when in fact she was the daughter of a truck driver from the Moscow suburbs.
Sorokin, who carried out her plans under the name Anna Delphi, is expected to be put on a flight to Frankfurt on Monday after her release from a detention center in New York state, according to the same report.
Sorokin was sentenced to between four and 12 years in prison, but was released in February 2021 for good behaviour, but was arrested again the following month for overstaying her visa.
The woman presented herself as a German heiress and had a fortune estimated in the millions, which allowed her to take out loans from various banks. Between November 2016 and August 2017, he flew for free on a private jet, lived on credit in Manhattan hotels, and never paid anything. According to the New York Department of Justice, he stole about 260 thousand euros.
Her story seduced TV producer Shonda Rhimes – responsible for series like ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Scandal’ – who turned it into a Netflix mini-series, ‘Inventing Anna’, with Julia Garner in the lead role. Sorokin will receive about 300,000 euros from Netflix.
