The Austrian, formerly No. 3 in the ATP rankings and currently at number 51 in the hierarchy, thus joins other big names already confirmed such as Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (9th ATP), Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman (16) and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta. (nineteenth), Albert Ramos Venola (37) as well as the Portuguese Joao Sousa (87), who received the first invitation.

“We have been looking for Dominic Thiem for some time at the Estoril Open. In addition to already winning a Grand Slam title at the US Open, he is considered one of the best claycourt players today and the World Cup Finals at Roland Garros testified to that. (…) He is not only one of the best players in the world on clay, but also an extraordinary competitor who is highly regarded by fans all over the world”, said Tournament Director Joao Zilhau.

Dominic Thiem himself thanked the invitation: “I would like to thank the Estoril Open for inviting them to play this year in Cascais. They have given me excellent reviews of the tournament and I am looking forward to playing in Portugal and back in the ring. Thanks!”
