London. Famous German tennis player Boris Becker has been sentenced to life in prison

Published on

A London court has sentenced former German tennis player Boris Becker to two years and six months in prison for embezzling millions of pounds after bankruptcy. In June 2017, the court declared him bankrupt.

Becker’s trial began in March this year. The former athlete was jailed for concealing information, including bank information, to help him repay his loan. Including Becker. He hid several assets and about 1.8 million pounds (2.1 million euros). He was also accused of not donating some of the Wimbledon and Australian Open trophies.

A six-time Grand Slam champion, he has denied violating British bankruptcy law after going bankrupt in 2017 and owing nearly £ 50m to debtors.

Becker, 54, was convicted by four jurors under the Bankruptcy Act. He was acquitted of 20 charges. Judge Deborah Taylor announced that the former tennis player will spend half of his 2.5 years in prison and the rest will be suspended.

Becker was with his partner Lillian and son Noah at Southwark Crown Court in London.

Wins on the court

In 1985, Boris Becker became the youngest person to win a Wimbledon title at the age of 17. He was nicknamed “Boom Boom” for the way he played on the field. His vibrant play and youthful enthusiasm made him the favorite of the London audience. The German won 49 tennis tournaments and earned € 20 million during his playing career.
