Benzema was named Player of the Year in the last edition of the Champions League, as he led Real Madrid to win the title with decisive goals in the knockout stages.

The French striker is also one of the candidates for the Ballon d’Or, and is currently collecting other honors, such as the “Onzi d’Or” awarded by the French magazine “Onzi Mondial”.

Now, in his interview at the award ceremony, Benzema has returned to his Real Madrid career, where he spent 13 years.

The Frenchman recalled the times when he was coaching Jose Mourinho, but also left out high praise for Cristiano Ronaldo, who he claims is his inspiration and who he says is incomparable.

“When I saw him, I tried to understand everything he did: goals, shots, passes, ball control … I explained everything about Ronaldo. So I can say: it is impossible to achieve the same,” he defends.

As for working with Mourinho, Benzema recalls a “little problem” he had with the Portuguese coach.

“I had a little problem with Jose Mourinho. We met at the hotel before a game against Mallorca and talked. I wasn’t going to play that match, and in that conversation, I said to him: ‘Put me first tomorrow, I’ll score and make you win the game.'” And the next day I played and scored our victory. 1-0”, he recalls.
