End of an era: Vince McMahon says goodbye to WWE

Published on

The end of an era is over: Vince McMahon on Friday resigned from WWE, the company he was fired as CEO after seeing his name embroiled in a bribery scandal for a former employee. The decision of the 76-year-old American businessman was made public through a short post on social media. He wrote, “At 77, it’s time to retire. Thank you WWE Universe. Then. Now. Forever. Together,” he wrote. After 42 years associated with the WWE industry, in which he played many important roles for the growth of the brand on a global level, Vince McMahon left the presidency of the North American company responsible for his daughter Stephanie McMahon. The former “wrestler” took control of WWE on a temporary basis on June 17, when a bribery scandal related to Vince McMahon’s name surfaced. The businessman is suspected of having bribed a former WWE employee with a $3 million (about €2.85 million) “suitcase” so she wouldn’t reveal an alleged affair that might exist between the two.
