Former Germany international Lothar Matthaus donated to the Legends Project (the largest collection of football items) the number 10 worn by Diego Maradona in the 1986 World Cup final in Mexico, which ended with Argentina’s triple victory over Germany.
“These relics are very important and would be perfect in this museum. Diego Maradona was unique and was not only a football legend but also a great friend. “It is an honor for me to be here,” the former player said, during the shirt handover ceremony, at the Argentine Embassy in Madrid.
“It was always an honor to play against him. He was undoubtedly the best, not only as a player, but also as a person. It is a pity that he is not here with us, but Diego will always be present in our hearts, now also in this museum.”
The famous Albiceleste jersey is thus the latest thing from Legends, a project developed by Argentine Marcelo Ordás that will open a museum of more than 4,200 square meters in the Spanish capital, where about four thousand objects related to the sport will be displayed.
“Today we are united by the story of two legends, one of whom is here, Mateus, and the other who is present in our hearts, Diego Armando Maradona. In such a material world, it is important to highlight the generosity of the gesture of presenting this heritage to mythology”, thanked Marcelo Ordas.
