Price increases for natural gas and electricity for domestic customers, in regulated and liberalized markets, come into effect on Saturday, which, in some cases, will increase by approximately 40 euros on the monthly bill.
The increases were announced one by one by merchants over the summer, but the entry into force of the new prices is now taking place at the same time for all local customers as well as for some small businesses.
EDP’s commercial customers will pay an average of 30 euros per month for natural gas, plus five to seven euros in fees and taxes, an increase the company has justified as prices rise in international markets, after a year without tariff updates.
The new rates will be in effect for three months instead of a year as usual, and are subject to upward or downward revisions at the end of that period.
However, the company ruled out making “other year-end changes in the price of electricity”, unless there are “exceptions” over the next few months.
In the case of Galp, the increase in the natural gas bill will be around eight euros, for the most representative group of customers.
The company also justified the rise by “purchasing cost in line” with prices in the international market.
Galp updated the price of natural gas on July 1, with an increase of about 3.60 euros for the most representative segment.
In contrast, Goldenergy customers will experience an average of 10 euros in monthly gas bills, which cover both families and small businesses.
Energy justified this rise with the costs of regulated access, market volatility, and higher gas prices.
The new tariff will be in effect until the end of the year, when it will be reviewed in light of market changes.
These announcements prompted the government to agree to a measure allowing consumers in the liberalized market to return to the regulated gas market, as was already the case with electricity.
The regulated market offers cheaper prices, however, the Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços Energéticos (ERSE) announced a new energy price increase in the regulated market for natural gas and electricity.
Thus, in that market, an increase of 3.9% compared to the previous month comes into effect today, and since the updates were made throughout the year, the increase is 8.2% for 2022-2023 compared to the previous year (2021-). 2022).
In the case of electricity, customers in the regulated market will pay an additional five euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), which equates to an average increase of 3% in their monthly bill.
Endesa customers remain unchanged without increases, and has committed itself to maintaining contractual rates until December and fulfilling the obligations set forth in the Iberian Mechanism, after Electricity will rise 40% in August, the company’s president said.
Iberdrola also did not report increases.
