Revolut customers in Portugal, numbering more than 500,000, spent more money on their cards on the first day of the third phase of the downturn, which coincided with the reopening of shopping centers in most municipalities in the country.

Physical purchases are up 75% compared to their last “normal” on Monday (February 2020 average) in the pre-pandemic period, and UK fintech card spending (overall consumption) increased 28%. The spending peak was yesterday between 11 am and 12 noon.

Revolut’s analysis of the consumption habits of Portuguese customers concluded that the consumer profile that marked spending on branded cards on April 19 was men between the ages of 35 and 44.

In terms of businesses, the main retailers who took advantage of the consumer boom on the first day of the third phase of the downturn were El Corte Inglés, Zara, Worten, Decathlon and Fnac. This group of five companies alone accounts for around 30% of the total spend in the shopping center category.
