The City Hall of São Paulo, through the Secretariats of Municipal Health (SMS), Education (SME) and Subprefectures (SMSUB), held on Saturday (19) a D-Day to combat dengue, with more than 10,000 activities to raise awareness and intensify preventive measures against the Aedes mosquito Egyptian.

For the municipal health minister, Luiz Carlos Zamarco, insect control measures are essential to prevent the occurrence of dengue cases in the city of São Paulo, mainly, with the advent of the rainy season.

“The capital is at the moment of preparation, all against dengue. Health authorities are strengthening house-to-house measures and guiding residents about the risks of the disease and the importance of identifying and removing stagnant water points (hotbeds of mosquito spread) in homes and commercial establishments. In fact, we are in partnership with Sub-departments and education, to strengthen activities for dengue prevention and mosquito control.”

During the day, the municipality’s 28 health monitoring units (Uvis) worked in joint actions with urban hygiene teams from the 32 sub-prefectures of the capital. Agents from the Zoonoses Surveillance Division (DVZ) of the Coordination of Health Surveillance (Covisa) also participated. Platforms have been set up with educational activities and the dissemination of materials containing information on the control and control of Aedes aegypti throughout the city, which represents about 60,000 approaches to citizens, in addition to the involvement of about a thousand specialists from the Municipality of São Paulo (PMSP).

In addition to measures that residents are already familiar with — such as “house-to-house” eliminating mosquito breeding sites and screening for standing water points and other breeding areas — several urban policing measures were also implemented this Saturday in reclaiming public areas assessed as potential places for Aedes aegypti infestations such as Scrap yards, vehicle dismantling shops, tire shops, cemeteries, etc.
