The return of the International Exhibition of Minerals, Gems and Fossils to the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra – CentroTV

The International Exhibition of Minerals, Gems and Fossils at the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra returns, between tomorrow and Sunday (25 to 27 November), for another edition full of representative specimens of the fascinating natural world of rocks and their minerals.

Starting at 10:00 am, this 28th edition, organized by the Department of Geosciences of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), features more than twenty exhibitors and provides the general public with many examples of precious stones, crystals and gemstones from quarries around the world, as well as Jewelry with semi-precious stones and amulets.

«Among gemstones and crystals of rare aesthetic beauty and collectible interests, there will also be a great variety of fossils which record the various ages and environments in the history of the Earth, through which the evolution of living things passed, from dinosaurs and other antediluvian reptiles to fish and fossilized animals. , trilobites, ammonites, giant ferns and even insects preserved in amber, ”reveals Pedro Denis, Professor and Director of the Department of Earth Sciences.

This event is an invitation to all, passionate or curious about the natural sciences, to visit places in the University of Coimbra associated with its rich history in mineralogy, geology and mining.

The International Exhibition of Minerals, Gems and Fossils represents an opportunity for any of us, by collecting or acquiring something simple, to be able to join this natural universe, of which the University of Coimbra is the greatest guarantee of its heritage and added value to the student city », the director concludes.

With free admission, the event will take place in the areas of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra, located on the ground floor of the Colégio de Jesus building and in Largo Marquês de Pombal, in front of the “Chemical Laboratory”, in the Alta de Coimbra.
