In the week you complete the postgraduate course in political science at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) 10 years, newspaper option Conversations with coordinator Carlo Batti to assess the actions, perspectives and challenges of the program expanded in the context of Reuni (Programme to support plans for the restructuring and expansion of Federal Universities).

In the researcher’s assessment, the course represents opportunities on various fronts. About Goiás State’s position in the country, he is categorical: “The Midwest region has enormous potential for expansion in political science as well as in international relations.” 2017 to 2020.

The program came into being in 2011, when Professor Denis Paiva, Dean of Political Science at UFG, decided to set it up to focus on public policy. Later, in 2018, it was the turn of international relations to be added to the programme. “We joined forces, we had high-quality publications, we continued to ensure that students are trained in a short time, an average of 24 months, and we stimulated the training of students to ensure production – whether publishing articles or participating in conferences,” he said.

Professor Carlo Batti is currently the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Political Science at UFG and tenured professor at PPGH and PPGCP and has achieved international recognition for his most recent book, Brazil in the Global Nuclear System, 1945-2018.

Published by Johns Hopkins University Press in December 2021, it is the result of years of research in public and private archives in eight different countries and interviews with former presidents, diplomats, and scholars.

The book examines in detail Brazil’s decision to abandon the development of nuclear weapons in the country and its position on adopting non-proliferation rules after decades of opposition.
