Axalta Coating Systems, a paint company, has published its 70th Global Auto Color Popularity Report revealing the three main colors for 2022, white, black and grey.

Worldwide, white tones lead (34% total) with pearl whites at 14% and famed whites at 20%. Intense blacks then radiate impressive effects and make up 21% of the vehicles on the road.

Finally, gray tones (19%) had brightening effects in a wide variety of color tones. In general, variations of blue (8%), red (5%), and green (1%) were found to have high color intensity and complex glowing effects.

“Today’s cars are more vibrant than ever,” said Robert Schnell, vice president of global sales and product management for Axalta. “For example, compared to the white variations of the 1950s, these whites are brighter and contain iridescent particles. Together, white, black, gray and silver vehicles make up 82% of the cars currently on our roads.”

Axalta’s annual color popularity report was first published in 1953, and is the industry’s oldest color record.
