Traffic, Big Heart | Snow causes problems on both E 39 and E 134: car in guardrail, truck in ditch

Published on

passage: Snow has settled on the roads around Haugalandet and in Sunnhordland. At 19.40 the police received a report from E 39 in Stord. 40 minutes later, another message arrived from E 134 between Ølen and Etne.

– In Stord, there was a car that crashed into the guardrail just north of Leirvik. There were two people in the car and they were reported to be in good condition. Operations manager Victor Finn-Jensen at the police district of Sur West said the ambulance was still taking them in for check-ups.

He says it was a training flight, and the two taken were a girl in her teens and a man in his forties.

– Everything was fine with the training run, but there was a lot of snow and the road was slippery. Maybe that’s why, says Fenne-Jensen.

Stop at E134

At 20.20 a new message appeared, this time from E 134 in Fikse. Here, a truck got into the ditch, causing traffic problems.

“There’s no question of personal injury, but we have road patrol now to help with traffic flow,” says Fenne-Jensen.

One lane was closed, and traffic was diverted. At 9 p.m., the wagon train moved in, and traffic returned clear.

Settles after minutes

There were rough hours in Vegtrafikksentralen this afternoon.

– Snow began to fall northwards and complete chaos ensued in Bergen and the surrounding areas. Now I turned south towards you also at Haugalandet. As things stand now, it’s difficult to clear the snow quickly enough, says traffic operator Ken of Holm at Vegtrafikksentralen.

The plow crews are out, he says, but find that the snow settles minutes after they plow.

– Right now, it’s the weather gods who are having a bit of a hard time. It is difficult to control the amount of snow, and people have to drive according to the conditions. Heavy rain was forecast for the next few hours, but according to the forecast, it won’t last that long, fortunately, Holm says.
