Another death from dengue was confirmed this Tuesday (11) by the State Center for Health Surveillance (Cevs), linked to the Department of Health, of Rio Grande do Sul. This is the third death from the disease, which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, this year. The victim is a 44-year-old woman, resident of Gramado, who developed a co-morbidity with a previous diagnosis of vascular disease.

Even in areas with low rates of dengue fever, it is also important for residents to seek medical attention from the health services as soon as the first symptoms appear. In this way, exacerbation of the disease and the possible development of death are avoided. The main symptoms are: a high fever (39°C to 40°C), lasting two to seven days; pain behind the eye; headache; body aches; Joint pain; general malaise; nausea; vomiting. Diarrhea; and red spots on the skin with or without itching.

Preventative measurements
Cleaning and reviewing the interior and exterior spaces of houses or apartments and removing objects with stagnant water are measures that prevent mosquitoes from being born, which leads to interruption of the life cycle in the aquatic phase. Mosquito repellents are also recommended for greater individual protection against Aedes aegypti.

Epidemiological situation
This year, Rio Grande do Sul has recorded 4674 confirmed cases of the disease, of which 4262 are purebred, that is, the infection occurred within the state. As for the other cases, they are reported, when residents of the country were infected while traveling to another place.

In 2022, Rio Grande do Sul has the highest rates of disease in its entire historical series. There were more than 57,000 original cases and another 11,000 imported cases. In all, there were 66 dengue deaths last year.
