In addition to Sporting, the Portuguese runners-up, Dinamo Bucharest (Romania), Kadeten Schaffhausen (Switzerland) and IFK Kristianstad (Sweden), were excluded, while Zagreb (Croatia), Aalborg (Denmark), Montpellier (France), Beck Szeged were excluded.
