EasyJet removed passengers from planes because they were overweight. They each received 500 euros

The plane departing from Lanzarote could not take off. The company offered to pay volunteers to stay ashore.

The flight was supposed to have departed from Lanzarote and bound for Liverpool at 21:45 last Wednesday 5th July. But two hours later, the EasyJet plane had not left the runway.

At that moment, the passengers of the crowded plane saw the pilot leaving the cockpit to explain himself. “The plane is full. Also, the runway here on Lanzarote is short and the wind is unfavorable. This means that under the current conditions the plane is too heavy to take off, “explained the captain.

The two pilots would try to calculate all possible ways to complete the flight, but stressed that safety was the top priority and, therefore, they would not risk taking off in these conditions. The solution was sent to easyJet’s headquarters, which allowed pilots to request assistance from passengers.

“The solution to the problem of an overweight aircraft is, of course, to make it lighter. If that is possible, I’d like to ask about 20 volunteers not to travel to Liverpool tonight. “

The request caused a sensation among the passengers and the captain hastened to explain that incentives were foreseen for volunteers, in order to allow the aircraft to accomplish the scheduled flight.

“The amount easyJet is currently offering is that we can get up to €500 for each passenger who chooses not to fly tonight.”, advanced. What is certain is that 19 passengers ended up accepting the proposal – and the flight was finally able to take off towards John Lennon Airport in the UK.
