Google has a warning for users which is worth heeding for a suspicious message in your inbox that can lead to a lot of problems. So if you receive what appears to be an email “from Google” and you’re not sure why, don’t click on any links in the message. This is the latest scam that is making victims of Gmail users on the internet.

Google’s notice is very clear on this. “Looking for tech support for Gmail? The official way to get Gmail support is through the Gmail Help Center site.” However, it also tells people to look out for third-party sites or pop-ups that claim to provide tech support for Gmail and other Google products.

Phishing tech support emails are common and criminals intend to scare victims into providing important information.

Google states: “These contacts and their websites have no affiliation with Google and may claim to provide password reset assistance in addition to other Gmail-related assistance services.

In addition, these sites may require payment for their support services.

The fact is that Google does not charge users to recover their account credentials or change their password.

So, if you get a suspicious email about tech support or see a strange pop-up, avoid clicking.
