Irvin Cartagena was also sentenced to five years in prison for conspiracy to distribute heroin, fentanyl and fentanyl, according to a statement from the Attorney General for the Southern District of New York.

“Michael K. Williams tragically lost his life after taking drugs that Cartagena sold. Although his product had already cost his life, Cartagena and his accomplices continued to sell heroin that contained the lethal fentanyl,” said District Attorney Damien Williams.

Cartagena, also known as “Olhos Verdes”, was one of four men accused of belonging to a drug trafficking ring that sold drugs to the gang, and had already pleaded guilty in early April this year.

Prosecutors alleged that Cartagena was the person who made the “one-man deal” with Williams shortly before the actor’s death from an accidental overdose, yet Cartagena and his accomplices continued to sell heroin laced with fentanyl in broad daylight in Brooklyn and Manhattan, according to the U.S. Department of State. After Williams’ death, Cartagena fled to Puerto Rico, where he was eventually arrested in February 2022.
