DrUSA reaches an extraordinary story. A Ferrari racing car chassis sold for nearly two million euros at Sotheby’s auction. The car could have caught fire in a race, in the 1960s, and remain intact forever.
The piece, dated 1954, was acquired by an American collector 25 years after this incident, who kept it in its damaged condition. In 2004, the car was finally found along with 19 other Ferraris when a hurricane in Florida destroyed the roof of a hangar where it was stored.
In the note, the auctioneer explained that the remainder of the car will require “a difficult restoration to return it to the condition of its glory days,” but the process promises to be “extremely rewarding.”
Only 13 examples of the car in question—the 500 Mondial Spider Series I—were ever made, hence its high cash value.
Moreover, the car was driven by Franco Cortez, an emblematic Italian driver of the fifties and sixties.
