Lisbon has once again been highlighted in international publications. At the beginning of September, Eater magazine, known for its gastronomic suggestions, published an article listing “33 essential restaurants” in the capital. The list – quite eclectic – includes pubs, decades-old homes and modern spaces that have already become inescapable.
“The foodie visitor quickly learns that the sardines, cod and famous nata pasta are great, but Lisbon’s culinary scene has much more to offer,” they describe. The quality of the ingredients is praised, and seafood, fish, cheese, wine and vegetables deserve special attention.
The selection does not focus on just one area of the city, nor does it create hierarchies – in other words, it is not arranged according to a specific criterion. The list includes spaces located in Chiado, Santos, Belem, Campo Pequeno, Alvalade, and others.
One of the restaurants highlighted was Taberna da Rua das Flores, which was also praised by several other publications, such as Condé Nast. This time, Eater highlights “innovative and delicious dishes to share.”
There, inspirations from different countries come together. Andre Magalhães, Head Chef “is particularly interested in the links between the cuisines of Portugal and the cuisines of former colonies. To get to know them better, he travels to different countries. From steaks to steaks, there is no shortage of traditional dishes.
If you want an experience worthy of a Michelin star, you should go to Vitoria, which has received one of these awards since 2011. “Chef Andre Cruz combines high-quality techniques with Portuguese flavours, creating unforgettable moments,” the publication describes. Cod with caviar and chili ice cream are among the options you can try there.
