The Abarth 1000 SP was swift and fast, reaching 220 km / h, and its value was immediately evident with the victory in the Nürburgring 500 km of 1966, in the class up to 1000 cc, which would be followed by successes in contested racing traditional circuits and even downhill tests.

To honor the historic Abarth 1000 SP, Centro Stile Fiat and Abarth decided to build a modernized version of the 1966 1000 SP.
