NASA is looking for 4 people a year to “live” on Mars

People need science, but obviously science also needs people. Such is the case with NASA, which is looking for four individuals interested in “living” on Mars for about a year. This is a simulation mission taking place at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The space agency says it intends to prepare for the first major trip to Mars, and volunteers will be financially rewarded.

The amount each person will be eligible to receive is not yet known, as it will only be revealed during the selection process. According to the Exame news portal, volunteers must be between 30 and 35 years old, be residents of the USA (whether citizens or not) and have two main elements essential for the mission: health and motivation.

Moreover, you need to meet some additional requirements to proceed with this task. Volunteers may not be smokers, must speak fluent English and have at least a graduate degree in engineering, mathematics, biology, physics or computer science. They must also have at least two years of service in one of these fields, or have flown an aircraft for at least 1,000 hours.

According to the same source, this trip is expected to take place in 2025, that is, approximately in the spring. After going to the moon, this will be another big step for humanity, which this time will travel, for the first time, to the “Red Planet”.

The goal of the simulation is to prepare for the first flight to Mars

For NASA, this is a very important measure, as the goal is to collect as much data as possible about Mars, so that we can better study the fourth planet from the Sun. In addition to health and motivation, NASA asks volunteers to have a strong desire for adventure. After all, it's an experience from another planet, literally.

Registration is open until April 2.
