On April 11, WhatsApp will see one of the biggest changes in its history in response to new EU regulations. Under pressure to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act, the app will be forced to allow interoperability with other messaging services, such as Signal and Telegram.

Imposing this change reflects an attempt by the European Union to combat the dominance of big technology companies, known as “gatekeepers”, in the digital market. The legislation aims to open the way for small businesses to compete and provide a greater range of choices for users.

For users, this change means that they will be able to send messages via WhatsApp to users on other platforms and vice versa. While this promotes greater freedom of choice, it also raises concerns about app security.

Meta, the parent company of Whatsapp and Facebook, warned that this new policy could jeopardize the app's security, but stressed that it is a regulatory requirement that must be adhered to. Otherwise, it may face fines of up to 10% of its global annual turnover.

Therefore, starting April 11, WhatsApp users will face a series of changes that they will have to accept to continue using the service. These include acceptance of the new terms, details about interoperability between messaging apps, changes to data transfer policies and the minimum age for using the app.

While some users may not find meaningful reasons to reject these changes, others may choose to stop using WhatsApp if they do not agree to the new terms.
