At the beginning of this year, food supermarket chain Carrefour removed PepsiCo products from supermarket shelves due to “unacceptable price increases”, raising alarm in the food industry, with shelves in France, Spain, Italy and Belgium running empty as stocks ran out.

As with the French company, Mercadona, in 2008, removed several references for the same reason. Faced with price increases, at a much lower rate than now, the Valencian chain revised its entire line: out of the 9 thousand references that existed at that time, it chose to remove a total of 800, half of its own and private label brands. The other half are manufacturers.

Mercadona explained, months later, in February 2009, that she was able to reduce the prices of her customers' shopping carts by 10% on average after implementing a “cost optimization plan.”

In 2020, the North American giant, owner of soft drink brands such as Pepsi, 7Up or Lipton, as well as snack brands Matutano (Lay's, Cheetos, Doritos or Ruffles), made a strategic change in its commercial policy and began manufacturing white products. Branded products of the Valencian chain, introducing new references to the Munchos brand.

PepsicC has introduced a new version of Fritos that joins the other two references in its range of the Valencia chain: wavy french fries, similar to the legendary Ruffles fries, but with a cheese flavour, and a corn snack with a spicy flavour.
