Starting this week, ten additional medicines will be distributed free of charge through the Farmácia Popular program. The list includes medicines for treating high cholesterol, Parkinson's disease, glaucoma and rhinitis.
Until then, only medicines for diabetes, hypertension, asthma and osteoporosis, as well as contraceptives, can be obtained free of charge at approved units.
With the update announced this week, 39 of the 41 items offered by Farmácia Popular are now distributed for free.
As for the medicines and other supplies provided by the program, the Ministry of Health paid up to 90% of the reference value, and the citizen paid the rest according to the price charged by the pharmacy.
