the Australian meteorologist Nate Byrne had a panic attack live on air while presenting the weather forecast on the ABC's Breakfast News on Monday.
During the broadcast, Byrne, who has previously spoken about his battle with panic attacks, ended up asking to hand over the broadcast to journalist Lisa Miller, as he was reporting on the weather forecast for Queensland and NSW South.
“I’m going to ask you to stop for a moment. Some of you may know that I sometimes have some panic attacks, and in fact, that’s what’s happening right now. Lisa, maybe I can give you the broadcast again,” he said.
The journalist complied with the request, and also took the moment to remember an article her colleague had previously written about the issue, in 2022.
A few minutes later, Nate returned to the show, calmer, and apologized to viewers for the panic.
“I'm sorry if I scared anyone,” he said.
The Australian later noted that after watching the video of what happened, he realised that the signs of a panic attack may not be obvious to anyone who sees it.
The moment quickly went viral online, with many users expressing their support for Nate and praising his teammates' stance.
