Is it better to open or close windows when it is hot? Clarification of doubt

Published on

MMany people have a habit of keeping their windows open to cool down their homes when it's hot. Does it work? Amy Parker, an expert at energy company 100Green, explains, according to Metro. On hot days, you should only open the windows when it is cooler outside than inside the house..

With that in mind, everyone is advised to “open windows first thing in the morning or late afternoon and at night,” in other words, try to “avoid opening them between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (the hottest time of day).”

You can also open windows on opposite sides of your home to create a draft. According to the expert, “moving air is cooler than still air,” which helps create a breeze.

He also recommends a simple home improvement trick. Simply place a “wet sheet in front of an open window” and you can cool the air entering the house.
