A 23-year-old American ventured an unauthorized path to reach the summit of the active volcano Vesuvius in Italy last week.
Once at the top, the tourist took out his mobile phone to take a “selfie”. However, he shouldn’t have done that.

A spokesperson for Vesuvius National Park – where the volcano is located – said park guides noted that the American was on the restricted side of the volcano. They quickly came to the aid of the man, and managed to pull him out of the hole.
The 23-year-old came out relatively unharmed, with the exception of some minor injuries to his legs, arms and back.
The spokesperson also told ABC News that the man may have walked the unmarked route because tickets for the national park were sold out.
It is said that the American appeared on the other side of the crater, where visitors are not allowed to travel. The hole had to be fenced at first, but in the place where the 23-year-old was, there was a hatch.
Custody
An unlucky bird must have a travel companion with him. They were all said to have been taken into custody after the 23-year-old was rescued and charged with trespassing in a restricted area, according to a park spokesperson.
The spokesman also claimed to the American media that the tourist could have fallen 300 meters into the hole, if he had not been rescued by the guides who were nearby. It is also apparently unusual for visitors to travel on unmarked trails.
