Zine El-Din renews his contract with Maritimo for two more seasons. At the end of his contract, the 33-year-old Mozambican international had a longstanding verbal agreement to extend the engagement with the Greens and Reds, which will be signed during this week.
The experienced defender arrived in Maritimo in the 2016/2017 season and immediately took on a leading role in the Madeiran team. The undisputed holder throughout his six seasons at the service of the islanders – 178 games and scoring seven goals – he is one of the most respected players in the team and one of the players most loved by members and fans. Taking into account his high sporting performance and already emerging as one of the club’s most recognizable players, contract renewal was a priority, both for the board of directors now headed by Rui Fonte, and for the SAD management, led by Joao Luis Martins.
Despite receiving offers from other places, namely from Arab and Asian football, with much higher financial values than those offered by Maritimo, Zinedine Zinedine gave priority to Maritimo from the first moment, because the family also feels good in Madeira. With all interests combined, the new marriage will be celebrated in the next few days.
