A documentary film that encourages girls to enter the field of science – Virtz

Recently released at the Tribeca Film Festival, in New York, USA, and now showing its first in Brazil by 3M, the documentary “Não Pareço Cientista (Not the Kind of Science)”, addresses negative stereotypes and the need for greater diversity, equity and inclusion in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Produced in partnership with Generous Films and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the story tells the story of four women scientists who have defied standards and faced discrimination in search of recognition in their careers.

Available on the 3M Curiosity blogThe Não Pareço Cientista documentary aims to convey a message of hope and inspiration to future generations of women, with the story of characters who overcame prejudices and broke boundaries to show that anything is possible.

The documentary was inspired by the results of the latest release of the State of Science Index – the State of Science Index, the company’s global study answered by 17,000 people from 17 nationalities, which found that girls and women still face obstacles in science education.

The survey found that 59% of people think women are more frustrated with pursuing a science education than men, and 87% agree that there is more that needs to be done to encourage and keep girls.

By highlighting these four professionals, the film shows that women are breaking paradigms in their fields and inspiring the future generation of girls to become scholars and ambassadors in the subject.
