adnexal torsion (TA) It is a condition in which the ovary, fallopian tube, or both rotate around the axis of the ligament, causing significant swelling Adnexal ischemia and inflammation. Prompt diagnosis and prompt surgery are essential to protect the ovaries and tubal function, and prevent irreversible necrosis. ED is the fifth leading cause of gynecological emergencies, with an estimated prevalence of 2% to 7% among women undergoing surgery for acute pelvic pain.
An article was published in the Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery with the aim of describing the emergency department (ED) use of AT in adult patients in the United States. The researchers performed a retrospective analysis to determine initial diagnoses of ED and ED.

Methods
Between 2006 and 2018, the annual number of ED emergency room visits among women aged 18 to 65 years increased from 2,791 to 5,243, and rates of hospital admissions for ED decreased during the study period from 76% to 37%. Patients with AT were less likely to be accepted if they had private insurance, but acceptance rates for AT were similar regardless of income and hospital education status. The average DE fee for a TA nearly quadrupled over the course of the study compared to the total DE fee, which doubled. The median fee for ED patients in 2006 was $5,212 and in 2018 it was $20,213—an average annual increase of 24.0%, compared to 14.3% for all other diagnoses in age-matched women.
consequences
While AT admission fees fell 50% from 2006 to 2018, ED use nearly doubled and the average associated fee quadrupled, bringing the total weighted annual fee to more than $500 million by 2018. Data indicate indicates that women are rated similarly to TA regardless of income or insurance status.
Practical message
Although the study was conducted in the United States, I believe the data is similar to that of the Brazilian DE. For this reason, I brought up this article to add more knowledge regarding epidemiology and expenditures due to TA.
