For the second time in less than a month, the home of Andre Villas-Boas, former Porto coach and presumed candidate for the club’s presidency, was vandalized in the early hours of Wednesday. However, Wednesday’s incident took on more serious dimensions, as attacks on the apartment guard forced the 64-year-old to receive help at Santo António Hospital, in Porto. A car was also stolen during the altercation.
According to information collected by PÚBLICO, the car belonged to the man who was attacked and Public Security Police (PSP) agents were still at the scene, at 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, to collect evidence that could help understand the identity of the suspects. . There is no record of detainees, and the investigation is the responsibility of the judicial police.
Police were initially called to the scene after fireworks exploded near the coach’s residence. A few hours after this incident, at 5:35 a.m. on Wednesday, authorities were called to the scene again, this time after reports of attacks on the apartment building’s caretaker.
André Villas-Boas is the most widely discussed name to succeed Pinto da Costa as president of the “Dragon”, but the possible re-nomination of the historic president for the position has fueled the emergence of two factions: one in favor of continuity and the other in favor of continuity. Another calls for a replacement in direction.
This split was notorious at the club’s last extraordinary general assembly, with insults and attacks among Porto members at a large meeting that would, in practical terms, serve to discuss a possible change in statute. Work stopped after the events and the AG was postponed. The new main meeting will be ineffective after the statutory review is withdrawn.
Porto members are scheduled to meet next Wednesday, November 29, again, this time to discuss and vote on the club’s accounts. The regular meeting is scheduled for 9pm and will be held at the Dragão Arena.
